With two successful racing games under its belt, Uphill Rush 3 already has the ingredients to make something spectacular. While the original was enjoyable it was pretty basic and was in need of some polish. The second one shook things up by adding in-depth personalization features and improving the game physics. That being said, what makes Uphill Rush 3 unique from its predecessors?
Well for starters, it is easier to perform stunts this time around. Whereas before you needed to mind several keys to exhibit your racer's mad skills, now, you need only to press the Space Bar. This adapts to whatever terrain you are currently on, choosing the more appropriate trick your character can pull off. Bottom line is that the Space Bar (or whatever key you assigned to the Jump/Stunt command) can do just about everything. How nifty is that?
We also appreciate the fact that Uphill Rush 3 injects a few witty, humorous elements into its racing game play. Instead of just motorcycles and skateboards, you can now opt to ride horses and cows. Yes, you read right, we mean farm animals that neigh and give you fresh milk. Take note that the cow's speed stat is listed as 75% versus the motorcycle's slow 45%. That's just epic.
Now as for the mechanics, they remain largely the same. You aim to cross the finish line within the time limit to beat Time Trial and you race against a CPU opponent in Versus Race. If you happen to pass a good chunk of the stage, a checkpoint is generated. This serves as a shortcut, allowing you to resume a race from there after a wipeout. However, if you run out of lives before completing a level, you will be prompted to start over without that handy respawn point.
The three difficulty levels have been retained from the first two Uphill Rush titles. While the Easy levels in both the Time Trial and Versus modes are available at the start, Normal and Hard races will have to be unlocked.
The customization features also make a comeback in Uphill Rush 3. More outfits have been added to the mix, with a variety of patterns to make your character truly unique. The control customization feature remains our favorite however, offering players endless ways to optimize their control scheme to perfection.
To make collecting clothes and vehicles easier, money is strewn around each stage. Now, you will have a chance to collect more funds whether you're an expert in performing stunts or not.
If there is one thing that the Uphill Rush series does best, it's improving on their racing formula. While the changes from the second title are not as drastic, they did manage to lower the difficulty bar. That makes a world of difference for those who are looking for a time waster that is a bit more relaxing to play. Good elements from the first two games, such as the customization features, a catchy rock soundtrack and realistic sound effects were also retained as well, making Uphill Rush 3 a solid racing title that will surely be addicting to Uphill Rush fans.
